Fast, Easy Well Log Digitizing Software

To aid analysts in entering well log data for use by a PC, LOGDIGI provides an easy interface between the computer and digitizer. LOGDIGI utilizes a digitizing tablet so analysts can use the tablet's cursor or pen stylus to trace logging curves and enter several zones or an entire logging suite quickly and effortlessly. To begin digitizing, the user defines a grid from three points, four points, or a series of four points. This grid sets the depth and log scales and corrects for any rotation of the log on the digitizer. Using the option to exactly define the grid, allows accurate digitizing for logs, even those with significant stretch.

While digitizing, the current coordinate is displayed along with a graphical representation of the log curve. Both on and off scale portions of the curve are displayed. From these displays, the user can monitor the digitizing process.

LOGDIGI has several features that complement the digitizing process. these include: (1) editing the default for on and off scales for particular log curves, (2) adding log curves to the curve list, (3) deleting or retracing portions of curves, (4) going easily between on and off scales, (5) tracing curves in a continuous motion, (6) tracing all curves within a track without redefining the grid, and (7) processing the data into data files with user set depth increments (e.g. 0.5 or 1.0 feet or meters). For users wishing to quickly display their digitized data, LOGDIGI offers a VIEW mode in which up to two thousand depths of two curves can be displayed on-screen. Data files can also be viewed in LOGPRINT.

Because of the easy format of LOGDIGI's ASCII output files, the results of LOGDIGI can easily be integrated with other programs such as interpretation packages, spreadsheets, plotting software or databases. Completely interactive, LOGDIGI is quick to learn with instructions available on-screen. LOGDIGI's manual also discusses the program's features and provides step-by-step instructions for several examples.

LOGDIGI has been designed to run with digitizing tablets connected to the computer through a serial port. LOGDIGI can be installed with a variety of tablets under different switch settings. LOGDIGI is available on IBM-PC and compatible microcomputers.

Special Features

Digitizing Well Logs

Digitizing well logs using LOGDIGI is quick and easy. the user need only define the filename to place the data, select or define the log curve, set the grid, and trace the curve in a continuous motion using the digitizer's cursor or stylus. The three or four points selected from the log, set the axis orientation including log and depth scales and any rotation if the log is not placed exactly straight upon the digitizing tablet.

Several features aid the user while digitizing. these features include: graphing the curves and displaying the current coordinates while digitizing, defining the scales needed for off-scale portions, and allowing users to set depth increments for data storage. Using LOGDIGI both linear and logarithmic curves can be digitized. Portions of curves can be redigitized as needed with the redigitized data replacing incorrect data in data files.

Viewing Curve

After digitizing several curves, the user may wish to display the log curve to check for accuracy of the digitizing or to select possible zones of interest which deserve further study. One or two log curves can be displayed with a graphics representation plotted on the left side of the screen and the log values with their corresponding depths listed on the right side. A cursor can be moved to select a particular depth or through the DEPTH option the user can enter the desired depth. A simple editor is available from which selected log data may be re-entered.
