Logger PC 4.0 from Oregon State Univ

Forestry Digitizing Software

LoggerPC 4.0 is a software package designed to do payload analysis for skyline logging systems. The program has evolved over the last 20 years from one that ran on the very early desk-top computers to this current version. Many people within the Forest Service and Oregon State University have had a part to play over the years in the development of various versions of LoggerPC. LoggerPC4 is the product of a new development effort.

The program allows logging planners to accurately estimate payloads and line tensions for specific cable yarding scenarios. A wide range of cable yarding systems can be analyzed.

LoggerPC4 has some new features. The windows interface is entirely new. There have been enhancements to many of the routines including multispan. It is no longer possible to use a digitizer directly with LoggerPC4 although there are enhanced data import routines for GIS and ASCII files as well as files from LoggerPC 3.2. It is no longer possible to group profiles.

  • Appendices: Glossary of Terms, Digitizing with LoggerPC, Braking Torques and Drum Dimensions (Running Skyline), Wire Rope Specifications, Log Drag Geometry, Solution Algorithms and Assumptions, Conversion Factors

  • A Quick Reference for Finding Help on Specific Topics

The items listed below are things that have been changed in the new version.

  • The display problems with Super VGA monitors (and drivers) have been corrected so that the screens function properly, although the window size cannot be increased to fill the entire screen.

  • Using digitizers to enter profiles is now simpler. A Digitizer Configuration Library has been added that will allow the user to select from the 20 preset digitizer configurations designed for popular digitizing tablets. If the user's digitizing tablet does not have a preset configuration file, the user can create a new one and save it for later use. This is the single largest change made to the program and a short User's Guide Supplement is available to help the user.

  • The default values that appear in the Phase 2 analysis input boxes (Standing or Multispan analysis) have been changed to make the iteration process for maximum payload easier.

  • The Multispan analysis has been corrected to allow more than two intermediate supports.

  • Units of measure (lbs, feet, Kg, meters) are now reported on several program outputs.

  • Several small problems that caused the program to crash have been eliminated.
