Roddiag from Theta Enterprises

Oil Industry Digitizing Software

State-of-the-art diagnostic analysis for existing rod pumping systems

RODDIAG for Windows is a wave equation diagnostic computer program. RODDIAG uses exact pumping unit kinematics to analyze any available pumping unit geometry. RODDIAG interactively calculates fluid level, pump intake pressure, and net pump displacement from the downhole pump card shape.

RODDIAG is able to use dynamometer information from disk files, computerized dynamometers (including Nabla DYNOMITE dynamometer systems), centralized pump off control systems, or from a Summagraphics Summasketch II or compatible graphics tablet. This makes RODDIAG the only truly hardware independent expert diagnostic analysis program.

RODDIAG can even use solid line dynamometer cards that do not contain time information (normally needed to solve the wave equation). It does this by internally calculating the missing time data using exact pumping unit kinematic models. The RODDIAG user manual contains several pages of verified downhole pump dynamometer card shapes that allow you to determine the pump condition.

Summary of RODDIAG Features

  • Calculates the downhole dynamometer card for systems with steel or fiberglass rods using the wave equation.
  • Calculates critical stresses at the top and bottom of each rod section.
  • Calculates monthly power bill, and electricity cost per barrel of fluid and per barrel of oil using efficiency curves for NEMA D or Ultra High Slip motors.
  • Calculates gross pump stroke, pump volumetric efficiency, overall system efficiency, peak torque and gearbox loading for existing and balanced conditions, and the counterbalance you need to balance the unit. The report also shows the difference between balancing the unit for minimum gearbox torque versus minimum energy usage.
  • From the downhole pump card it can calculate fluid load, fluid level, pump intake pressure, net stroke, and pump fillage.
  • Plots surface and downhole dynamometer cards and gearbox torque plots. Also, it can print a single page output that includes all the quantities calculated by the program, including the dynamometer and torque plots.

Dynamometer Data Sources

RODDIAG for Windows is compatible with all available dynamometer and pump off control hardware, including, among others:

  • CAC
  • Delta-X
  • Echometer
  • Highland/Sargent POC
  • Intellution
  • Lufkin Automation
  • Pickford
  • Praxis

You can also digitize analog dynamometer card plots with Summagraphics or compatible graphics tablets.

You can also retrieve data using Theta's T1 Dyno.

Theta Enterprises makes its dynamometer file format available to anyone who wants it. This policy, along with the popularity of the RODDIAG program, has made this file format the industry standard.

Huge Pumping Unit Database

RODDIAG comes with a huge pumping unit data base (with over 3000 units) that includes data for:

  • American
  • Ampscot
  • Bethlehem
  • Cabot
  • Churchill
  • Darco
  • Emsco
  • Jensen
  • Lacy Air Balanced
  • Legrand
  • Lufkin Conventional (new and old), Mark II, Reverse Mark, Low Profile and Air Balanced units
  • National
  • Oilwell
  • Parkersburg
  • Rotaflex
  • Rigmaster
  • Smaco
  • and many others. RODDIAG allows you to customize the list to show only the pumping units you use frequently, and you can add your own pumping unit dimensions to the database.
Support - Overview

Custom Setup

RODDIAG for Windows allows you to select to use English, SI (Metric), or Canadian (mix of English and Metric) units of measure. You can customize the program by entering your company name, electricity cost, and custom rod grades and measured pumping unit dimensions to avoid having to type them in for each new case. You can also enter rod grade information for any steel sucker rod types that are not already in the program's database.

Incredibly User-friendly

RODDIAG for Windows is very easy to use. It has expert context-sensitive help for every input field, and comes with an artificial lift glossary with definitions for hundreds of terms. Also, RODDIAG's toolbar allows you to go to any input screen at any time with a single mouse click.
