How to Choose A Digitizing Tablet
Size - The most important consideration is size.
There is a big price increase between a 12x18 ($550) and 24x36 ($2195). If
a smaller tablet will do they are considerable cheaper. One suggestion is
to start with a smaller tablet and purchase a larger tablet if needed.
Also there is not much price differential between a 24x36
tablet (2195) and a 36x48 tablet (2495). Another $300 buys a tablet twice
as big. Of course you need to have a place to put the tablet.
Software - The next consideration is software. Make
sure the software works with the tablet. Almost all newer software
programs use the Wintab digitizing driver which comes with these tablets
so your software should work
with all these tablets. If using older software, check tablet
compatibility.
Brand - All of these tablets are made by GTCO
Calcomp and perform fairly similarly and cost the same. All the
tablets should last 10-20 years or longer.
Portability - The GTCO Roll-Up can be rolled into a
tube carrier and easily transported. A nice bonus if you need to digitize
in a clients office or digitize in another country. If you need to easily
transport the tablet, look at the Roll-Up or a smaller 12x12 tablet.
Light Table - Accutab II and DrawingBoard III also are available
with backlit surfaces to aid in the digitizing. Send us an email is you
would like pricing on these tablets,.
